CPAP Repair and Maintenance
CPAP Repairs and Proper Maintenance Need To Be Undertaken by Qualified Personel

For many sleep apnea patients who need a continuous positive airway pressure or CPAP machine, their very lives depend on the device functioning properly. CPAP repair and maintenance is an important part of taking care of their CPAP machine and its parts.  Care should be taken, however, to ensure that proper steps are taken in the CPAP machine repairs and maintenance of the device and all parts that accompany it.  The CPAP is considered to be medical equipment so care should be taken when seeking to have repairs made on the device.  Regular and continuous maintenance and some standard precautions can often prevent substantial problems from occurring thus quite often causing repairs to be necessary.  This is especially important if the positive air pressure is not correct.  Patients who complain of headaches after or while using the CPAP need to call their doctor immediately as the positive airway pressure may be too strong.

It is imperative that patients not attempt to repair their own equipment!  The CPAP machine is considered medical equipment and only an electric professional should attempt to repair a patient's CPAP machine or provide replacement parts.  If the patient is renting the equipment, then he or she will need to contact the rental company to obtain a replacement and allow the rental company to have the device repaired.  If the patient owns the equipment, then he or she will need to seek an approved electrical repair center for the repairs.  The company that sold the device to the patient should be able to direct them to a suitable repair center.  The CPAP machine is a very complex piece of medical equipment and should therefore be treated as if lives are depending on it which, in fact, that often is the case.

A little preventative maintenance can go a long way in the patient not having to seek out repair services for the CPAP and its parts.  It is vital that the machine's continuous positive airway pressure function work efficiently.

The CPAP should never be immersed in water.  While others parts such as the tubing can be immersed in water, the CPAP machine cannot.  This will damage the electrical components and could possibly deliver an electrical shock to the user the next time he or she attempts to use it.  As with any electrical unit, if the CPAP is wet or damp it should not be plugged in as there is an increased risk of electrical shock.  Additionally, patients are advised against using their CPAP unit with an extension cord.  Patients using a CPAP machine should read their user's manual and refer to it in the event of issues that may arise.  Users should never attempt to repair the CPAP themselves.
