Long Term Effects Of Taking Melatonin
Melatonin - similar to serotonin, is a hormone naturally created within the body, and it's
secreted by the pineal gland (located in the midsection of the brain) to assist with the different circadian cycles of night sleep. As a result,
it's manufactured, sold, and used as an alternative, yet effective short or long term night sleep disorder treatment for
problems like short or long term insomnia.
Some questions surround the safety of taking melatonin, however the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not made the safety or long term
effects of taking melatonin available because quite frankly, there are no significant melatonin side effects to report! This does not suggest
that taking melatonin comes without caution or side effects that warrant concern.
Melatonin is renowned for its drowsiness side effects, which consequently, is why it's used as a sleep aid. Under no circumstance, should
melatonin be taken at a young age, during work conditions, while operating machinery, or while consuming alcohol and other drugs. The
combinations of melatonin, alcohol and other drugs could create unhealthy interactions that range from a minor inability to sleep to more
complicated health risks including death.
As with all supplements, you're strongly encouraged to consult your physician before taking.
