There is Much Debate About Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Exercise Among the Medical Community
Who Is Right?

Chronic fatigue syndrome and exercise can be a problem.  There are benefits of exercise and CFS but anyone with chronic fatigue syndrome may find it difficult to exercise.  Patients with CFS may be able to cure some of the effects with light exercise that is graded to the severity of the condition.  The benefits for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, are that aches and stiffness in joints can be alleviated.  The cure for aches and pains in muscles and joints in people with CFS can include graded exercise that are not too strenuous to the patients.  It is important to not over exert when dealing with exercise.  The person suffering should take careful notice of their body’s signals and stop if there is pain or exhaustion.

The benefits of exercise in people with chronic fatigue syndrome are debated among health care professionals.  Some believe the cure to muscle issues in chronic fatigue syndrome patients is graded activity.  Other health care professionals believe the benefits of activity in CFS sufferers do not outweigh the possible risks.  Graded exercise may cause more problems than it is worth and some physicians will suggest very minimal, if any, exercise.

Exercise will cure many ailments.  However, the benefits in people with CFS may also cause more pain and fatigue.  If activity is to be conducted, it is generally recommended that it be done in small doses.  It is also important to listen to the cues of the body.  If you become tired, stop and rest.  Overdoing activity can be harmful and there are issues that need to be dealt with.  Start off slowly, working your way up to more intense exercise.  Always consult a physician before starting any exercise program and particularly if you have additional complications that may adversely affect you.  Continual monitoring of your activity will ensure you are getting enough to keep your muscles from atrophy yet not too much to where it will cause more harm than good.
