Baby Sleep Problems
What Should a Parent Do?
Baby sleep problems are a very common occurence. Problems with baby sleeping affect the
parents as well as the infant or toddler. If a baby has problems sleeping in the first few months, parents should not be too concerned as
this is natural. However, if sleep problems continue as the infant grows to a toddler, a pediatrician’s
consultation should be sought to rule out any more serious problems. Parents of a toddler who has sleeping disorders can generally find
ways to alleviate the problem, often with natural techniques and lifestyle changes. However, if a sleep problem is caused by a more severe
medical condition, medication or sleep aids might be in order.
If you suspect your baby has one or several sleep disorders because of a problem sleeping, a pediatrician will be able to diagnose the problem
in the infant and recommend a course of action. Baby slumber disorders such as apnea can result in further health problems so it should be
looked into as soon as possible by medical professionals. However, if a child is still quite young and is simply not resting through the
night, this is a fairly common problem. Diet and routine will be looked at first to see if this may be the cause of the difficulty.
Often simple changes can be made to alleviate the issue without more drastic measures having to be taken.
