Sleep Apnea Machines
Sleep apnea machines are the
most effective treatment available for the rest disorder. The technical name for a sleep apnea machine is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP. The sleeping machine provides air pressure through a mask
that is worn over the mouth or the mouth and nose while asleep. This air pressure forces the throat to remain open which eliminates the
obstruction while you are asleep.
It is important to realize that the sleeping machine will not cure sleep apnia. It is only a treatment for sleeping apnia that will allow you
to get the rest that you so desperately need. In most cases of sleep or rest apnia, weight may be the issue that causes the resting apnea. Your
doctor will most likely provide you with a diet and exercise plan to help you lose weight. In extreme cases of resting or sleep apnea, surgery
may be required. However usually, by following your doctor’s orders and using the machine at night while asleep you will be able to overcome your
resting or sleep apnea.
Most insurance companies will cover the cost of the machine and supplies and equipment that go with the machine. Machines can usually be
purchased or leased. CPAP machines cost around $400 and up, and the supplies cost extra. The length of time you will use the machine, and what
your insurance company is willing to pay will help you determine whether you should lease or buy the machine. But it is important to get the
right machine, and for that, you will need to seek medical advice and have a sleep study done.
