I Need Some Sleep
If you have found yourself saying “I need some sleep” more often than usual you may be
unknowingly sleeping or rest deprived. When I needed some sleep for a prolonged period of time, I finally had a rest study done. With a sleeping
or rest study, you can learn a lot about your sleeping patterns, how often you are unknowingly waking up during the night, and even use the
results to help you and your doctor identify any potential sleeping disorders.
Needing Rest
Sleep labs are located around the world. Most metropolitan areas and larger cities have a sleep study lab. Usually you just need to make an
appointment and a doctor’s referral is not needed. However, if you want your insurance to pay for the study, a doctor’s referral will be
needed.
Often needing more sleep is due to a problem that you are not aware that you have. Millions of people have interrupted sleep that they do not
remember. They may awake from the sound of their own snoring. Sleep apnea may wake them when they gasp for air. They may suffer from nightmares that they do not
remember. There are lots of reasons why they may be needing more rest than you needed, but without a sleep study, finding out what is going on
while you are asleep is next to impossible.
Sleep studies are fairly inexpensive. They cost about fifty dollars per session, depending on where you live – some areas are higher than
others. Again, simply call for an appointment. In most cases, you will be asked to arrive a few hours before the study begins – around seven in
the evening. The study should be finished by six in the morning, and in most cases, you will be asked to fill out a survey before and after the
study.
