Alcohol And Insomnia - A Bad Combination If You Want A Good Night's Sleep

Alcohol and insomnia are of special interest to those who study how alcohol affects sleep, and of course - how treatment can reverse its effects. Recent reports show that alcohol most certainly affects sleep, and does indeed increase insomnia and health related problems. We don't always think about insomnia or sleep related problems while drinking, but the truth is that alcohol affects our ability to sleep or properly rest at night.

All the information you expect to see in any health report about under-age drinking or withdrawal and sleep, points to things like depression, increased stress, and of course anxiety. But the problem becomes deeper than that when health related problems prohibit sleeping at night. For some drinkers - in particular for those who over-drink, relaxation becomes more difficult as the body attempts to re-adjust itself to a non-alcoholic state.

Remember, it's during the night - when we sleep, that our bodies try to undo all the problems we create for them during the day - a form of natural 'self-treatment.' However when alcohol is introduced into the system, this natural repair process is slowed so much that it never feels the full benefits of sleep and, thus tires throughout the day.

Reducing the amount of alcohol intake and/or seeking proper treatment is the only way to alleviate the negative affects that this behavior has on sleep.
