Don't Stay in Bed if You Can't Sleep
Sleep Disorder Tip #06-011

Many people lie awake for hours trying to fall asleep. They think if they just lie there they either will fall asleep or at the very least they are getting some "rest" by just being in bed.

Take matters into your own hands. If you have been lying down for more than 30 minutes and are wide awake then get up and do some non-stimulating and quiet activity away from your bedroom. When you begin to feel tired then go back to bed.

Many people ignore their own personal signs of tiredness because they are in the middle of some activity or they just don't want to go to bed. They wait until the activity is over and they are once again wide awake and then they try to sleep with unsatisfactory results. You should listen to the sleep signals that your body is trying to tell you and go to bed.
