Sleep Deprivation and Memory
Many People Do Not Realize the Impact That A Lack Of Sleep Can Have on Their Academic and Work Lives
Sleep deprivation and memory loss are closely related. Sleep deprivation and
learning can be more difficult because of loss of memory that results in poor performance in a learning environment. Sleep
deprivation can cause a lack of REM sleep which may negatively impact students who are in school resulting in poor
academic performance. Students will not be able to concentrate on their class work because they are overtired during the day.
This results in loss of memory. Performance in school while learning is important for a person’s future. If they are experiencing REM
sleep deprivation, students may not get the type of grades they would expect.
REM sleep is an important part of living a healthy life and it results in good health and performance. However, if there is deprivation,
you may experience problems retaining knowledge and performing at school or at work. You may want to consult a physician if you have a
chronic problem. A physician will be able to diagnose what the problems are and recommend treatment that will enable you to start getting a
good night’s rest. When you are having difficulty sleeping you may experience a lot of problems concentrating during the day and may have
issues at home, work or school. Getting treatment to enable you to sleep soundly during the night will benefit you and your overall health
greatly.
