Consider Seeing a Doctor
Weekly Internet Tip #06-001

Many people would like to feel better rested yet they are unable to fully achieve this goal as they suffer from the effects of insomnia.

These effects can be the result of significant life stresses such as a career change, joblessness or other anxieties. These are some of the characteristics of Primary Insomnia which should be differentiated from Secondary Insomnia which is more serious and is generally related to certain health conditions.

The stressors and anxiety that are generally the causes of primary insomnia can create a vicious circle. The more anxious that you get about not sleeping increases your stress which makes you more anxious and your insomnia gets worse.

One of the first things that you should do is to see a Doctor in order to determine if your insomnia is the result of stress or anxiety (Primary) or due to certain health conditions. If the latter has been ruled out then the Doctor will likely recommend that you deal with stressors that are the cause or he may recommend medication. However, the latter may cause other problems and certain medications lose their effectiveness over time.
