Sleep Apnia Surgery
Sleep apnia is a common misspelling of apnea. The term means cessation of breathing
and is commonly shown by excessive snoring. Although snoring may be troublesome, apnea is potentially life threatening because of the
cessation of breathing while sleeping. A CPAP machine is the central treatment for this disorder. It will help with allowing a more
peaceful slumber and will also help lessen snoring. Sleep apnia surgery may be done in more
severe cases where the cessation of breathing is more acute. Surgery for sleep apnia is done only in cases of severe apnea. The
surgery may involve removal of the uvula, the central piece of flesh found at the base of the throat.
Sleeping after the procedure is found to be much improved in approximately fifty percent of patients. The continued use of a CPAP machine may still be necessary, however, due to scar tissue continuing to obstruct the
airway. The severity of the disorder is central to deciding if a CPAP machine or more radical steps are necessary. Sleeping for a
full eight hours each day is important for the continued health and well being of the patient. Anyone experiencing the symptoms of this
disorder should obtain a consultation with a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment options.
