Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome

Chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome is a problem that affects almost one million people in the United States alone. CFIDS is actually two conditions: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. If a person has CFIDS however, it means that they are suffering from both conditions at the same time.

Chronically Fatigued and Tired

CFIDS is a debilitating illness that affects the brain as well as multiple body systems. Being chronically fatigued or constant tired ness is the most common or constant symptom of the syndrome, along with concentration problems and short-term memory loss. Most people feel like they have the flu because they are tired and the symptoms of being chronically fatigued mirror those of the flu and include being tired, constant body aches, sore throat, and headache. If a person feels that the symptoms worsen after physical exercise, this is usually a clear indication of the dysfunction as well.

Diagnosis of chronically fatigued syndrome is difficult and takes quite a bit of time. Because the symptoms mirror those of so many other potential health problems, all other health problems must be ruled out first. Therefore, the diagnosis of CFIDS actually comes about by the process of elimination. Many tests of the immune system will be conducted to determine whether a person has chronic fatigue syndrome or another health problem.

CFIDS can be treated and cured with medication and supportive therapies. However the cure does not often come about quickly. Because CFIDS was only first recognized in 1988, it is still relatively new to the medical and research fields. The exact causes of the dysfunction have not been determined, however, there are a great number of theories. If you feel constant exhaustion or fatigue, you should seek medical attention to determine whether you actually have the syndrome or another health problem that needs treatment.
