Causes of Snoring
There are many consequences and causes of snoring. Some of these consequences can be
resolved with lifestyle changes, others consequences require surgery, and still others can be solved with simple inexpensive devices. However
before you start looking for a cure if you snore or have been told you snored, you must determine the cause of snoring. What causes you to snore
may not be the same thing that causes your spouse or your best friend to snore.
Many people believe that there does not have to be a reason for you to have snored. However medical research has shown that there is always a
cause for someone who snores – even if that cause is as simple as sleeping with your mouth wide open.
Common causes for someone who snores include aging, a sleep disorder, sleep apnea, being overweight, allergies, sinus problems, asthma, alcohol
consumption, food allergies, and the use of some medications.
Snoring can be a symptom or consequence of an underlying health problem. Do not take snoring lightly unless it only occurs occasionally – such
as you have snored when drunk. Constant snoring should lead you to your doctor’s office for an examination. Your physician may recommend a sleep
study to see if there are any sleeping disorders present, or to help determine the cause of your snoring. These studies
are not expensive, and they produce results that are quite helpful in determining the right treatment for someone who snores.
Again, make sure that you seek medical treatment, no matter how unimportant you feel your snoring is. Snoring, regardless of popular belief
does not often just naturally occur – there is a cause, and your doctor is the only one who can correctly diagnose the cause of your snoring.
