There Are Many Treatments That Can or Claim To Eliminate Snoring
A Complete Check Up By Your Doctor Is Often The Best Place To Start
Snoring is often the subject of humor and marital jokes, but the truth is, snoring is usually no laughing matter. Snoring has been linked to disorders such as nasal obstruction or
sleep apnea and other illnesses. There are treatments that can eliminate snoring or at
least reduce it but it is advised that people who snore have a complete check up by a doctor to make sure that there are no underlying
conditions. Snoring reduction and elimination in many cases is quite simple; a patient may be able to stop snoring all together.
However, when the snoring is an indication of a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea, it becomes a little more
complex.
Snoring is generally caused by a reduction in the opening of the airway or an obstructed airway while apnea is the elimination of free space
in the airway causing the patient to be unable to breathe temporarily. It can also be due to poor muscle tone in the nasal passage and
throat. It is important to note that patients who snore cannot help it because they do it during sleep and usually are not aware of
it. There are many treatment options to eliminate snoring, some are valid and doctor recommended while others are not useful, will cause a
reduction in the patient's sleep or are downright harmful. There are several surgery options available to patients who snore or who have
sleep apnea. Some surgeries will tighten tissue in the nasal passage and throat while other procedures create an environment where there is
not obstructive tissue in the throat or airway. These are usually performed when the patient suffers from sleep apnea. They are
usually successful in the elimination of sleep apnea and snoring.
A continuous positive airway pressure machine, or CPAP, is used in the treatment of apnea patients and is useful in the elimination of
snoring. The CPAP forces air through the nasal passage and airway through the throat so that patients experience a reduction in apnea
episodes, or completely eliminate them. When this happens, snoring is eliminated as well.
