Excessive REM Sleep

REM sleep usually occurs in the last two thirds of the sleep cycle. During REM is the time in which you will dream. Waking after this cycle is the natural process of resting and will leave you refreshed. However, excessive REM sleep has been linked to behavior problems such as depression. It can also cause daytime sleepiness and narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder where you are prone to sudden, deep sleep during daytime. Excessive REM usually occurs during this cycle. Narcolepsy will cause sleepiness during the daytime and sleep problems at night. This disorder is usually treated with prescription medication to you can get a proper REM cycle at night.

Excessive sleepiness during the day and even narcolepsy is a common side effect of increased rapid eye movement. There are also behavior issues that may occur from lack of proper slumber. A behavior disorder may result from excessive day slumber or excessive rapid eye movement at night. Depression and a lack of motivation can be seen in these people. Often those with a sleep problem have a severe problem focusing and being productive. This can sorely affect a person’s home life, education and career. It is a serious problem that needs medical attention to treat.
